‘After a career as a doctor - first a surgeon in the army, then as a general practitioner both in uniform and civilian life - I am now a historian specialising in the Eastern Front in both World Wars.

‘I am also a keen wildlife photographer and astrophotographer. Living in Scotland with little light pollution and dark skies gives me great opportunities for both.’

About Prit Buttar

Prit Buttar studied medicine at St John’s College, Oxford and King’s College Hospital, London. He joined the army where he trained first as a trauma/orthopaedic surgeon, then as a GP. In 2017, he retired from full-time work and moved to Scotland with his wife Debbie. After retiring completely in 2019, he volunteered to return to work during Covid.

Prit started researching his first book, Battleground Prussia (2010), after a chance conversation with an elderly patient who had fled from East Prussia in 1945. This has been followed by a series of books on the Eastern Front in both World Wars.

Stopping full-time work has given Prit more time for his other interests. He enjoys taking images of the night sky over Scotland and travels widely to photograph wildlife.
